Dr. Matthew Allen, Chiropractor

Dr. Matt and Maggie

Dr. Matt and Maggie

For years I suffered with headaches. It was a constant, nagging pain everyday of my life for over 10 years.

I knew I wanted to be a doctor at a very young age. You see, I was in and out of the hospital 27 times before I was 10 years old. Not a fun way for a kid to spend their early days, but for me I learned a lot about what health really was and what it really wasn’t. It wasn’t until I was in college that I realized Chiropractic was the best way for me to fulfill my goal to help others with their health challenges… Naturally!

My Chiropractic Journey

I attended Life University of Chiropractic in Marietta, Georgia. The coursework was very comprehensive with studies focusing on neuroanatomy, advanced biochemistry, clinical nutrition, physical rehabilitation, neurology and human physiology, diagnosis, chiropractic adjusting techniques.

You should know that I don’t heal anyone of anything. What I do is perform a specific BioStructural adjustment to restore alignment and function to the spine, reconnecting the brain and body, and the body responds by healing and regulating itself. It’s as simple as that!

As for my headaches…they have been gone for more than 10 years. However, I continue to get adjusted, because with a healthy diet, exercise and regular BioStructural care, I have a wonderful Quality of Life and it continues getting better. I hope to help you get healthy and stay healthy for the rest of your life and fulfill YOUR purpose in life!

I grew up in Edmond, OK and graduated from Edmond Memorial High School in 2010. After graduation, I moved to Stillwater to attend Oklahoma State University. My path into NeuroStructural Care started here in Stillwater at Sunrise Health Institute.

During my sophomore year at OSU I was given the opportunity to apply for a Chiropractic Assistant job at Sunrise. At the time I knew nothing about Chiropractic or NeuroStructural Care, but I was in school working towards a health degree and knew that I wanted to help people improve their lives in a simple and natural way. I started working at Sunrise in November of 2011, and I quickly began to see how simple but powerful an adjustment could be. For the first time I saw the impact that the spine and nervous system had on the health and function of the entire body. The specific adjustment removes any nerve interference and allows the body to self-regulate, heal, and repair. I decided the adjustment was the way I could help people in a simple and natural way. It was this realization that steered my education towards NeuroStructural Care.

During the five years I worked as one of Dr. Matt’s Chiropractic Assistants I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Health Education and a minor in Entrepreneurship, obtained my Koren Specific Technique certification, and finished my neuromuscular training. This combination of education and certifications allowed me to start adjusting. In May of 2016 I began my internship back at Sunrise Health Institute. I am so blessed to have the opportunity to learn from Dr. Matt and work side by side everyday with some of the most caring and loving people I know.

I got married in October of 2015 to my wonderful husband BJ Helton. We currently live in Perkins with our two cats and two dogs. We love to go to the lake, go camping, or watch movies in our free time.

I grew up a military kid and lived all over the country. I knew early on that I wanted to continue my family tradition of military service and spent six years in active duty in the Air Force. I learned quickly that I had a propensity for healthcare when I was sent to training to be a medic and rehabilitation specialist. Being in a military medical field allowed me to gain experience in a variety of clinical settings such as serving in general and orthopedic surgery, burn and wound care, flight medicine, pediatric, and emergency medicine. Toward the end of my enlistment I obtained an Air Force Physical Therapy degree and was able to serve in a variety of outpatient and inpatient physical therapy settings, Occupational Medicine, Hand Therapy, Orthotics and Prosthetics, Vestibular Therapy, Massage Therapy, Acute Care and Home Health.

Over the years I’ve spent thousands of hours on continued education courses searching for the best tools to use for my patients and myself for optimal health, then I discovered BioStructural Care here at Sunrise Health Institute with Dr. Matt. Before I started getting regular adjustments, I never could figure out why I was always sick. The year before I started as a patient here I was sick at least once a month. My acute care visit charges for that year were upwards of 6k dollars. In the year following and every year since, I have only been to see an acute care doctor one time. I’ve spent maybe a hundred dollars on acute care in 1 year! Not only am I healthier, but my body also recovers faster and I have improved overall wellbeing. Since discovering the amazing health benefits of BioStructural Care, I began referring all my patients to SHI. Every person that I’ve referred has voiced amazement at the benefit they have received.

You couldn’t begin to imagine my excitement when I had an opportunity to join the team here!
After several years leading a therapy team as a Rehab Director, knowing the benefit of a holistic approach to health, and with my personal experience of life changing care here at SHI, I jumped at the opportunity to join the team!

My understanding of the way the muscles and fascia work and interplay with the spine and nerves adds a unique facet to the care you receive. We find that through balancing the neurospinal and muscle systems of the body, the whole body system can heal, recover, and perform in an optimal way!

My approach is to utilize various techniques and tools to address the muscular restrictions in the body, therefore maximizing your bodies created ability to hold alignment and heal. Whether through adjustments, stretching, exercise, vibracussor, pain neutralization or other techniques, I strive to identify how your tight musculature might be restricting your functional movement, causing pain and effecting your alignment. I like to say that what I do is not healing, but putting your body in the most efficient posture to heal itself.

The opportunities and experience I’ve gained here at Sunrise have really shaped how I approach wellness and coalesce that knowledge and perspective into specific and effective care for you and your family!

Michelle Moorman, BioStructural Specialist

I am a farm girl from central Illinois. My family landed in Oklahoma when I was 16 and I graduated from Coyle high school in 1987. After completing my basics at OSU, I transferred to the Langston University Nursing Program. With more than 30 years of experience working in nursing and health and fitness, my search for the most monumental contribution to therapeutic body work finally landed me here at Sunrise Health Institute.

My Journey

I have been a regular patient of Dr. Matt’s here at Sunrise since nearly the beginning of his practice. His beautiful wife Kember (girlfriend at the time), told me he could help me with my horrendous migraines and allergies. My improvement was so drastic that regular adjustments remained a priority and created a longing to be able to help others in a similar way.

In 2012, Dr Matt and a visceral manipulation therapist inspired me to begin learning massage therapy and body work. Eleven years prior, I battled a terminal diagnosis of cancer and won! Deep in my battle, my desire to help others win intensified exponentially. This led me to become a certified personal trainer and open multiple women’s fitness centers. My interest in holistic healing was always distracting me and I was continuing to have nightly dreams of doing bodywork, nutritional counseling and personal coaching. I listened to my intuition, followed my passion and enrolled in my 1st myoskeletal therapist course. Here is where I found my forever love of bodywork as the way to help people heal and have quality lives. My experience here at Sunrise with Dr Matt has fostered a great perspective to view the body and help release associated pain patterns. It wasn’t until I began mentoring with Dr Matt, Eden and Mike that I realized Biostructural care is what I have been searching for to help me fulfill my desire to help people live their best life possible.

Personal

I am blessed to be married to my wonderful husband, Danny, since 1988. Together we have 7 beautiful children and 16 wonderful grandchildren, as well as an amazing birch family. We live on our farm west of Stillwater with a variety of animals.

Deidre Boles, Office Manager

I was raised in Perkins, Oklahoma, which is about 10 miles south of Stillwater. I graduated from Perkins-Tryon High School in 2009, and in May 2013 I graduated from Oklahoma State University with a degree in Business Management and minors in Finance and Marketing. I am the Office Manager at Sunrise Health Institute. I have been working here since May 2009. I love my job so much and am so blessed to get to be working with such great people. I enjoy getting to see our patients each day and knowing that our office is making a difference in their lives!

Before I started working at Sunrise Health Institute, I was a patient for about 9 months. I started coming to the office my senior year of high school because I had been having constant back pain for a few years and my shoulders were noticeably uneven. Also, I had suffered from severe allergy and asthma problems my whole life. Since coming to Dr. Matt and receiving regular adjustments, my posture has improved greatly, and I rarely have problems with allergies or asthma.

My overall health and well-being are much better! I cannot express how thankful I am for this!
Outside of work I enjoy spending time with family and friends, reading, watching my favorite TV shows and movies, spending time outside, taking care of my pets, and sports. I also really enjoy sharing with others about how they can bring a natural approach to healthcare into their homes with doTERRA Essential Oils and the huge difference those can make in everyone’s life!

Sabra Smith

Sabra Smith

Sabra Smith

Hi, my name is Sabra Smith and I have worked for Dr Matt at Sunrise Health Institute off and on since 2008. I have been very happily married to my husband Tom for 30 plus years and we have two wonderful children, Mike and Megan who are married and live in Mustang and Stillwater, respectively. I was a patient at Sunrise for several years before I began working here. Before I began care I was a patient of a traditional chiropractor and had sciatic nerve issues. However, once I started seeing Dr. Matt my health greatly improved. I have not had any sciatic pain for several years. Receiving adjustments on a regular basis has helped not only with feeling better physically, but also my allergies have greatly improved, and I rarely get sick. Dr. Matt IS our general care physician.

I love my job, the people I work with, and our patients! My husband and I are very active in our church and outside of the office I enjoy spending time with my family, reading, and playing with our pups – Charley Brown and Sadie.

I grew up in El Dorado Springs, MO where I graduated from high school in 1995. I then attended Ozark Christian College in Joplin, MO where I met my husband Scot. After graduating we moved to Southern California where we spent 10 years in ministry. While in California we had 3 children, Kylee born in 2002, Myka in 2004, and Trace in 2006. In 2010 we moved to Stillwater to work at Sunnybrook Christian Church. My husband is one of the ministers there and I teach at Sunnybrook Preschool and Mother’s Day Out. I started working at Sunrise Health Institute in February of 2020.

During college I injured my back and have had back issues ever since. Leading up to working at Sunrise I was experiencing back pain that interfered with my daily activities and sleep. After a few months of getting regular adjustmentsI started noticing an improvement in how I felt. My overall health is better and I have a greater range of movement with my back and little to no pain.

I enjoy working at Sunrise and am thankful to work with such a caring and fun staff!
