Frequency Specific Microcurrent (FSM) in Stillwater

An ankle you sprained last week and a shoulder that’s been stiff for years may seem like very different problems. Frequency Specific Microcurrent (FSM) is one therapy we may use for both recent injuries and longer-standing concerns involving muscles, joints, and other soft tissues.

At Sunrise Health Institute, FSM can be used on its own or alongside adjustments, depending on what you’re dealing with and your individual needs.

What Exactly Is FSM?

FSM uses very low levels of electrical current. Dr. Matt often compares it to a much gentler cousin of a TENS unit. The microcurrent is so low that most people barely notice it, if they feel it at all.

The therapy uses two channels at the same time. As Dr. Matt explains it, one frequency is selected for the type of tissue being addressed, such as muscle, tendon, ligament, or cartilage. The second is selected based on the concern being treated.

If FSM is completely new to you, that’s okay. A free consultation gives you a chance to ask questions and learn whether it may make sense for what you’ve been experiencing.

When FSM May Be Used

FSM can be considered for both recent injuries and problems that have been hanging around for a while. Depending on your needs, we may recommend it for concerns such as:

  • Recent sprains and muscle strains
  • Tendon or ligament injuries
  • Areas affected by scar tissue or adhesions
  • Chronic joint or soft tissue concerns
  • Certain bone injuries during recovery

We may also use FSM when restricted movement appears to be associated with older scar tissue or adhesions.

What to Expect From a Session

Most FSM sessions last about an hour. The microcurrent itself is generally difficult to feel, so don’t be surprised if you’re wondering whether anything is happening.

The number of sessions varies depending on the problem and how long you’ve had it. We typically recommend somewhere between 4 and 12 sessions, with care tailored to the individual rather than following the same schedule for everyone.
